England's
Wooden Walls
by

There are two names in naval history that cannot be separated:
Lord Horatio Nelson and the venerable HMS Victory. The Board
of Admiralty gave orders on December 13, 1758 to build twelve new battleships,
among them a "first rate" with 100 guns-Victory. She
was launched on May 7, 1765.
Victory was popular among the admirals; she was the most requested
to be their flagship. The peak of her career came of October 21, 1805
when she was Nelson's flagship at the battle of Trafalgar. Victory
remains a commissioned ship and is berthed at the historic Dockyard
a Portsmouth, England.
