In
Praise of Older Bombers
by
Dru
Blair
For nearly five decades, the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress has stood
as a symbol of America's determination to defend liberty and freedom
around the world.
This remarkable aircraft has achieved an unparalleled record of versatility,
endurance and precision, even in a world of constantly shifting combat
environments and technology. With continuing upgrades, the "Buff"
will be a potent asset will into the twenty-first century.
"In
Praise of Older Bombers", salutes this venerable war machine and
celebrates the spirit of American Technology.
This painting was inspired from a photograph I took while covering the
delivery of the first B-2 Bomber to Whiteman AFB years ago, on an overcast
afternoon. I altered the lighting and sky colors to depict a morning
mission and increased the density of the fog to reflect the timeless
mystique and intrigue of the aircraft. (Dru Blair, 1999)
