The Crewman
by
Gil Cohen
The Eighth Air Force crewman was the final link in a complex chain of command that enabled the "Mighty Eighth" to accomplish thousands of combat missions. All the planning and preparation efforts of hundreds of personnel rested in the hands of the combat crews. Each flier handled his individual feelings and emotions in his own personal way as he went out to his respective hardstand to proceed to the target for today.
His drawing, published from an original charcoal and pastel drawing, depicts an American crewman preparing himself to fly another mission against enemy forces.
