Major Martin Drewes was the first pilot awarded the "Iron Cross with Oak Leaves" [Eichenlaub zum Ritterkreuz des Einsernen Kreuzes] due to his brave efforts in the defending the Reich, with 52 victories in air battles. He was the last commander of the III NJG 1, and is the greatest living German Nighthunter Ace.
