On February 24, 1991, the 101st Division successfully conducted the largest air assault operation in the history of warfare. Led by 66 Blackhawks and 20 Chinooks, the 101st Division moved 85 miles into Iraq to establish FOB Cobra. This operation cut Iraqi lines of communication and allowed the coalition forces to push towards victory.
